The VGM Family Fund started in January 2021 to help employee owners of the VGM Group through hardships when help is truly needed. The Family Fund is employee-funded and exemplifies the Power of One Principle: Make a Difference.
VGM Insurance’s Culture Centric Counsel (C3) developed quite the homerun of an idea in June 2022. The C3 team designed baseball themed T-shirts for the division, and $5 from every shirt purchased went directly to the Family Fund.
“I had heard about the VGM Family Fund, and I was blown away by the thought that our company goes to these lengths to help coworkers in need,” said Misty Kelly, C3 co-chair. “As C3 processed the thought of a fundraiser, I was excited to be part of a committee that was willing to come up with a way to donate to the fund.”
To make this effort even more special, not only did VGM Insurance management pledge to match all funds raised, but so did Jim Nygren, VGM Insurance president.
“When asked if VGM Insurance’s senior leadership would match the contributions raised, it was an easy, ‘Heck yeah!’” said Nygren.
The number of shirts purchased was much higher than anyone expected. In total, after initial proceeds from the shirts were matched, plus additional donations made by the team, VGM Insurance raised almost $1,000 for the Family Fund!
This was cause for celebration. In August, the VGM Insurance Employee + Family night was held at a Waterloo Bucks baseball game, and everyone was encouraged to wear their shirts. And it wouldn’t be a true VGM donation without a giant check presented to the VGM Family Fund.

“I was thoroughly impressed with the generosity of all who participated,” said Irina Moye, C3 co-chair. “I love being part of a workplace that shows the generosity we have here at VGM Insurance.”
"The VGM Family Fund is a very important avenue for VGM employee owners to support other employee owners who need a little help," said Nygren. "It's something very special to work for a team who values helping others and the community. I couldn't be prouder."
